hi ,
i am shruti to help u out knowing urself better

two more questions:

may i know what that major attack was?
and also to what age group u belong to?

there are varieties in schizophenia:
1.simple
2.hebephrenic
3.catatonic
4.paranoid
in addition , there are the following clinical varieties:
5.schizo-affective
6.pseudoneurotic
7.periodic catatonia
8.late paraphrenia
9.capers syndrome

are u confused by seeing a number of varieties
but i gave all the information for ur knowing
the thing is first know from ur doctor to wat kind u belong to
i like to add sthing
now a days doctors are doing business with patients
giving the unnecessary medication

take the second opinion

schizo is probably a genetically determined biochemical disorder
bur a large variety of factors may act as the sufficient causes which makes it illness at a particular time in life

unless i know i cant suggest the treatment

not only medication but there r other forms of treatment avail

so dont get upset
u r in not so state what u think u r in

u r okay
able to think of solution to ur problem
right
u r better than

electro convulsive therapy is useful

Unfortunately with mental health, very little medication cures the problem but just keeps it at bay. You wil probably be on medication the rest of your life. Now, I am confused by your question, since you've been on the medication, have you had any occurences since you began it? If not it shows the medicine is working and you should not stop taking it. I'm currently taking medication for a disorder that pretty much keeps me normal while i'm on it. I've tried to come off of it several times and can't. But to me I think it's worth taking a pill everyday for the rest of my life than having to deal with worrying wether today is going to be the day it comes back.

It's different for different people depending on the type of schizophrenia, severity of the illness, effectiveness of medications, support system in place, friends, meaningful work or volunteer activities, etc. If you haven't achieved relative stability in 6 months, ask your doctor to reassess the treatment plan, or ask for a second opinion. My heart goes out to you. I think schizophrenia is a very cruel disease, but I've known many people who function quite well with it. Many of those are people who failed other drug treatments and then ended up on Clozaril (Clozapine).
