Best way to handle stress - distract and divert your attention to something of your interest. Yoga, music, medication(the last option),exercise helps but it all ends at one place "your mind". Your thinking, thoughts in short. Stress is different for different people and age groups and culture. If you are able to know that "this is what is causing stress for me" then i think the best option is to keep yourself occupied with others things - may be work, friends, shopping, cleaning, cooking something new, anything of your interest and even things that you have been wanting to do for a long time.

Sit and think what is bothering you. If it brings bad memories or making you sad then time to skip topics and turn around for better things. But ultimately to relieve yourself once for all of the stress - speak to an expert - may be a doc, a friend anyone whom you are comfortable with and who can understand you and your problem. This will also help in the long run.

So still then relax and learn to concentrate on things that you like and want to do - creatively.
Remember one thing - There is nothing that is forever.Everything will change and even this will change.
All the best.

Many people tout meditation as a solvent for stress. Meditation is not something that has helped me personally. For me, I cannot get my mind to "quiet" enough to meditate, unless I take some of my tranquilizers (I have OCD and GAD along with depression). Many look down upon people who use drugs as a solution. They are really not a solution. You still experience your symptoms, it just makes it so you can push through enough to function.
Meds may not be the best solution for everyone, but as I'm sure you've experienced, sometimes these negative thoughts and the stress from them are debilitating. If it gets to the point where you have panic attacks and cannot perform daily functions then it is time to see a doctor. My medication (though I've been on and addicted to a certain drug for 5 years now) has helped me so much, I am so thankful.
What helps me most (medication aside) is doing something else. I most often have to force myself to do it and it is hard, but throughout whatever the distracting activity is it will get easier. Something that is intricate and needs your focus--knitting, running or otherwise excercising with music (as long as your not stressing about losing weight, in my experience this has only mad it worse), reading (it's an escape, not a permanent solution), and yoga has really helped me. Active yoga though, nothing too meditative. When I'm lucky enough to have the oppurtunity I call a funny friend. Surrounding myself with friends and making me laugh always distracts me from the pain stress causes. Good luck.

PS. If you are stressing because you have lots to do, make a list and a timeline of when you need to get things done. When you are looking at your list tell yourself that you only can do one thing at a time, and that's just FINE. When you are doing a task only focus on that one, not the pile of stuff you have ahead of it.
