I prefer Pugs but would never turn my back on any helpless animal in need which is why I COMPLETELY AGREE with SILLYGOOSE, it has to be Labs because the shelters are filled with them! My husband brought one home from a jobsite he was on a few months ago that some people moved off and left to fend for himself! By the time my husband found him he was dehydrated, near starved, and COVERED in ticks that were literally tick on tick! He's turned out to be a beautiful dog now with lotsa love and care. He's neutered now so at least this will be one Lab that won't be a part of the overpopulation.
Pit Bulls and Pit Bull mix are becoming pretty common in the shelters as well...these guys get a really bad rap so it's hard to adopt them out though most are more loving and gentle than your average Poodle!
What ever the breed anyone choses, I just hope they will be responsible owners and take good care of them and HAVE THEM SPAYED OR NEUTERED! If you can't afford it then you can't afford the pet!

Oh My, Pepsie, you don't know? You with all your experience, even if you can't spell as Torbaynewf keeps pointing out? As to most prolific/ popular breed, depends on country. Did you know that despite all predictions, the Bernese Mountain Dog ranked even higher than the Leonberger in France this last year? And France is considered the second home of Leos! Imagine that?
I don't know in which country you live, I s'pose USA, in which case, the Lab!
BTW, do you care to answer my question directed specifically at you?

there are more labs in shelters than any other breed. partially b/c they are nuts and b/c they are being bred by back yard breeders that dont know the first thing about genetics or breeding and just put 2 "like" dogs together , usually for money. ruining this once remarkable breed. this has to stop for the health of this breed.

Labradors have been, and still are the most commonly registered breed of dog. That makes it really hard to show them! It takes 71 bitches over here to get a 5 point major!
