A good cigar... or you can try snuff or one of those nicotine patches or gum.

If you are looking to substitute nicotine, I had the best success with the lozenge. Patches work well too.

If you don't want a nicotine substitute, try lollipops and gum. And drink LOTS of water. When you have a really bad craving, try drinking a glass of milk. Also, starting or continuing an exercise program is a huge help in quitting. Good luck!

i truly LOVE smoking--but have come to a point where i HAVE TO STOP (nursing school clinical rules) i'm telling you that to illustrate how serious i am when i say--- Nicorette gum IS REALLY WORKING FOR ME! but you have to follow the directions. chewing 15-20 slow chews and "parking" it between your cheek and gum until the "peppery" (that's the nicotine) sensation goes away. then 15-20 more chews and park again. it's only been 13 days, and i have wanted to go outside and light up away from the family --just for the enjoyment of inhaling and blowing the smoke (habit) BUT i begrudingly put in a piece of the gum -- realized 5 minutes later i'd forgotten the original urge. i'm using the 4mg (there's also a 2mg) i haven't even used it every 2 hours like the package suggests. i can't believe this is working---- i mean i'm a HARD CORE SMOKER. now i'm wondering how am i going to get off the gum?!?!?! lol

I ate lots of popcorn for the hand to mouth fixation. You might try something that is spicy hotter than you normally eat. The first three or four days are so bad, it keeps me from starting back. After that it gets easier. No nicotine in any form, or you will just prolong the agony. Be tough and quit or die from it.

You might try pretending to smoke. Go through the motions deliberately without the lighter and cigarette. When pretending to blow out the smoke do it a little slowly and see the smoke go out of your mouth in the eye of your mind. Do it after eating or when ever you would like to smoke. This worked for me.

IN Sept of '78 I asked God to help me stop and he did. Not one cig since that time. Thank-you Jesus.

I used to smoke too, i quit myself, what i did was chewed gum or sucked on small candies when I got a craving. But if you use sugar-free, watch out, if you have to much at one time, you can get diarrhoea from the artificial sugars in them, so switch back and forth if you wanna watch your weight.

Sunflower seeds keep your mouth busy. When you have the urge to inhale, just take a deep breath to get you past that point. Good luck!
