You don't have to believe that there is a man living in a cloud. The religions say that you do but they're in that business. Religion is the belief business, and they sell many different kinds of beliefs. It's like going into a restaurant and looking at the menu. The global religions offer a menu of beliefs and you can make your selections, if that's what you want. Non-believers live happy productive lives also. it's absolutely no problem. Psychiatrists say that some people feel better when the believe that they get a second chance at life. And that's what the religions sell for $3 billion a year in donations. They make slight insinuations that a person's life cannot be complete unless they have beliefs (in what they offer) The more people with their beliefs, the bigger their collection basket.. That's why the religions are so competitive.

Every thing...and yet nothing.

Here is a story that solves your question.

In a willage in indai a old man was dying. He had 3 sons and 11 cows. He gave dying declaration to divide cows to 3 sons such a way that the eldest of all gets 1/2 of cows, the 2nd brother gets 1/4 of cows and last brother gets 1/6th of cows.

To divide 11 cows in 1/2 , 1/4 and 1/6 was impossible.

There came a priest and said, i gift you a cow to solve the problem, but you will have to return the cow to me later on...

Thus it became 12 cows...

the eldest son got 1/2 of 12 = 6 cows.
the 2nd brother got 1/4th of 12 cows = 3 cows and
the youngest brother got 1/6th of 12 cows = 2 cows.

All total of 11 cows were divided 6+3+2=11

and the priest took away his 12th cow...

In the context of your question, GOD is 12th cow...if you include Him, your reality changes differently and if you delete HIM totally..well, reality changes differently...

You decide.

Freedom of your actions. You are no longer bound to follow a certain way of life.

Responsibility. There is nobody to blame but yourself and no one to help you but yourself and the people around you. There is no divine intervention to rely on and wait for and that will make you more of a desire to set yourself on the right course.

A better life. You set your own morals and your own rules. You can live happy knowing that you are living for yourself and not for anything else. No fear of going to hell for eternity because you forgot to confess one lie.

Much more that is good. If you started off truly believing in a god, it might be a rough beginning.
