I just got finishing bands for my braces today. I had muscle cramps in my jaw and a pressure headache all afternoon. I took them out to eat supper, and they've been back in for a bit now, but my teeth hurt like hell. I've taken pain meds, but they don't seem to be helping, and I seriously CANNOT stand the pain of my teeth getting shoved tightly together. I know the best way to get over it is to keep them on, but what if it's driving you crazy and giving you headaches? Any suggestions or advice on how to deal with the pain and still get the job done?

Ohh my dear. i had jaw surgery this summer and let me tell you, imagine that pain times 100000. But..after i had the exact same problem with the tightening bands. What i found helpful is buying one of those beanie heat things and tying it around my head. it helps the muscles relax. the headaches can be helped with ice. try to find someone who has had their wisom teeh out and ask if they have one of those jaw ice pack things that wrap around your head. and of course IBprofin helps too. don't worry they will go away within a few days. its just like getting your braces tightened. but otherwise theres really no way to deal with it, except just to deal with it. i got lucky because i had vicodin. just think that you are lucky to still be able to eat solid foods. i was on a liquid/soft food diet for 4 and a half months. good luck!!

KEEP THEM ON, or itll just prolong your treatment. cold foods generally help, tons of ice cream, and get stronger painkillers. The pain does go away over time (or one just gets used to it) good luck.

drink milkshakes and slush puppies. they are yummy and they numb your mouth. don't worry it only hurts for a couple of days. you'll get used to it. make sure when you get your retainer to wear it at the least every night. its very easy to get out of the habit. and you can soak the retainer in denture solution during the day. that's the easiest way to remember

You can take the rubber bands off when eating. The pain takes time to go away.

I really don't know. I have headgear and braces, but I just got them. No pain yet, thankfully.
