She is an irish setter and only 1 yr old and in excellent health but about 1 month ago her hair around her ears started getting gray and now her entire ear and surrounding area is gray..?

Premature graying is often a symptom of hypothyroid. I would sure have a vet test her blood..

I have seen old dogs get grey hair but since yours is only one year old I'd say it is a genetic thing. Perhaps one or even both of the parents have similar coloring that appeared at that age.

Might be and early sign of aging. Look at some people that turn Grey in there teen years, or in their twenty's. Animals can turn Grey sooner than you think, just like people.

dogs hair change after their first puppy months... that color that is coming out is goign to be her hair color for ever until she gets old but if she dies you wont see that hair... anyways.... umm..... she just has a grey spot... its KoOO
