Atheist are just like anyone else in American, Christmas is a time for family gifts and fun.

It doesn't have to be religous.

Well this year I might have to work. But, yeah... what else are we gonna do that day but celebrate like everyone else? Go sit in the empty WalMart parking lot?

Seriously, we are not against everything that Christianity touches (even when Pagans touched it first)... especially when it means a nice, loving, family kind of holiday.

I do nothing all that different from what anyone else does. Gifts, tree, even Christmas music (secular AND religious - imagine that).

My family does Christmas trees and gift exchange and a large family get-together. Its fun, and doesn't have anything to do with God. Any atheists who don't celebrate are missing out on something wonderful.

Sure - it's a very American holiday. And the gift-giving, decorations and all the rest are so far removed from the birth of Christ that it really isn't very religious for those who grew up knowing these things.

I do it out of tradition because it's a time to get together with family I haven't seen for a long time.

But I am agnostic, so I do not speak for the atheist.

I celebrate with my family. My family is predominantly Christian, so I view most of the Christian holidays as a cultural-heritage kind of thing.

I travel to visit family, exchange gifts, share good food (and sadly, not so good food, too). Does any of that sound remotely Christian?

Yes.......just like the Christians. It is not even close to Jesus' birthday (if he even existed). Read Luke 2:8.......shepherds were watching their flocks in the fields at night which would be dumb in the middle of winter in the northern hemisphere of Earth unless they liked sheepcicles.
