Try putting a little Vicks Vapor rub around the bottom of the tree. We've been doing this for years and it works really well. Cats absolutely hate the smell and won't go near it. If you don't want to put it on the tree, you can put a little bit on jar lids (or anything really) and lay them around the bottom of the tree. (This also works to keep them off of the top of the entertainment center.)
Keep in mind though, the Vapor rub will lose potentcy over time, so you might need to renew it every couple of days or so.

Looks like we all agree with the water thing then haha Shut them outta the room when you're not home, and when your are, keep a small water gun ( not the huuuge super soakers kids play with) or a spray bottle when you are home! Gotta be (very slightly) cruel to be kind...if they didn't learn through the water method, they'd learn through the tree-falling-down-on-top-of-them method... All in all, considering that you would have to put the tree up again, if they pulled it over, the water one seems easiest! Also try not to let anything shiny dangle from the bottom of the tree, they will be attracted to it ! Another thing to try, is attach small bits of orange peel around the bottom branches, cats (usually) HATE the smell of orange ( or maybe lemon would work,i'm not sure) Good Luck xxx

Nothing about the cat. They're always attracted to trees. it awakens their wild side. on the other hand, you can do something with the tree. since you have a housecat, make sure you put less ornaments on the tree. for safety purpose, NO LIGHTS!!!

Put some tinsel on them so they will blend in!
Cats love pine trees! Especially fresh from outside. Cold, smelly, yum!

Just dont put tinsel on it. Cats love to eat that then you have little shiney silver things coming out your cat's butt.

Either get rid of the cat (I hope you don't), get rid of the tree, or get used to it.

Get rid of the damn cat. Get a dog. You never see a dog on the top of the tree. Other than that you will have to cut holes in the floor and tie the tree down.

LOL! Perhaps you can put a big fake owl or something in the tree that might scare your cat (or make it more curious). Well, thanks for the laugh.
