He yelps because he's insecure. do not make a fuss when you leave. start by leaving him 5, 10 minutes at a time and gradually lengthen the time. my dog used to cry his heart out if i go into a different room, let alone leaving the house, but after a few weeks he stopped because he knows i'll always come back. by anymeans, do not beat him, because that just associates negative feelings with whatever you're trying to each him. correct him by saying no or put him in a cage if he does something wrong. He needs to be walked and exercised and given his own toys to chew on. It's a good idea to neuter him, so you'll save yourself and your dog a lot of frustration, though is no substitution for consistent training. good luck!

I recently adopted a Walker Hound and she loves to howl when we leave. We kept on putting her in the crate with a chew toy and a Kong with a biscuit and peanut butter inside. She still howls like someone is beating her, but a few minutes after I leave she settles down. My advice is keep it up and make it a routine! Now when my dog sees that I have her Kong and the chew toy, she goes to her crate. I've only had her for 7 weeks (she is 7 months old) she just started going willingly 2 weeks ago. My dog is still destuctive so maybe it is just how hound dogs are. Don't give up, remember, tough love.

First, it's called NEUTERING not cutting his nuts. But this sounds like more of a people problem than a dog problem. If you're giving into his whining, shame on you because the dog is learning that whining will get him what he wants.

Neuter him because it's good for his health, and because the world is already overwhelmed with homeless pets. But then you need to start obedience training. Very strict and firm obedience training. THIS REQUIRES NO HITTING OF ANY SORT AT ANY TIME. You want the dog to respect you, and that's not going to happen if he can't trust that you're not going to smack him.

Here's a website that can help you with your obedience training. Here are some podcasts to get you started: http://www.leerburg.com/dogtrainingpodcasts.htm

Stick with the crate training PERIOD. If he cries in the crate, he stays in the crate until he learns to stop being stupid. Of course you give him potty breaks, but if he's not outside either playing or going potty, he's in the crate. Make sure the crate is in the same room you're in (living room, bedroom) - wherever you're spending the majority of your time. The dog should still be able to see you, but will remain in the crate until he learns to shut up.

It took my dog about 2 weeks to learn that the crate was her friend. Now she goes voluntarily and on command.

Good luck & be the alpha!

The dog is probably yelping when you leave because he'll miss you. When you leave, try not to make a big deal about it by kissing him goodbye or anything. Just say, "Later Buster (or whatever your dog's name)" and walk out.

Also, you should definitely get him neutered. He will become more docile and better behaved..so that's a must!

He is a breed of dog that needs a lot of exercise, so you MUST walk him daily, if not a couple times a day. Dogs go stir crazy if they don't have enough room or freedom. Just think: If you have a worn out, tired dog, he'll probably be calmer and more willing to cooperate, right?

Dogs need discipline and obedience before affection.

Play with him more and take him for long walks morning and evening. Pay more attention to him. You just can't bring a puppy into the house and expect it to be happy. Get a book on training your dog. Watch the Dog Whisperer on the National Geographic Channel. He is on Monday nights at 7 central time. He has a lot of good points on helping dogs with problems

This dog is still a puppy. Maybe you should take him to obedience training and show him more love than you do. Don't let anyone beat your dog!!!! That is cruel no matter who is doing it !!!!! I have a feeling your dog isn't very happy and content.

Sounds like you need obedience training. He may have separation anxiety.
