they're still considered minors and are still in the custody of the parents. so the police has to take the runaway home, unless the runaway committed a crime and must be detained for a period of time. of course the parents have to be notified as well.

Yup. A child cannot legally live outside of their parents home unless the state takes them away, or they emancipate. Call the police, you have every legal right to have them returned.

yes they can. a child, or teenager, is still legally under his parents care until he turns 18. unless the state takes him away, or something like that. if you report it to the police, they will go looking for him until they find him. however, if he ran away for a good reason, like child abuse or something (which you probably didn't do!) then once they find him, they will take him away from you. but, ya, your child most likely has to come home once the police find them.

Until he is of legal adult age, you are legally responsible for him, but not legally liable for what he does.
The problem is he is a runaway so if he comes back, how long would it last?
Too bad, read about baker act maybe you can find something helpful in it.
Wish you luck

Unless there is some other judgement, such as emancipation, of course they can. The real question is, will they bother? As a parent, keep on their collective arses. And be prepred for some serious therapy.
