I don't think this is true. Falling in love is a wonderful thing. What you describe sounds more like two people who fall in love because they are codependents and want to help save the other.

Falling in love is healthy, falling in love for feeling sorry for each other may not be so healthy.

No doesn't ring true love is way to broad to just narrow down into one sentence no matter what. But that saying sounds completely wrong to me.
