If you are a smartass, please don't respond.

She is a Shi-tzu Lhasa-Apso Mix and this is her 3rd litter, having 2, 3 & 4 pups per litter respectively. She labored & birthed them all night Saturday night. When I got home from work yesterday, I thought I saw blood in the little presents she left me in the front room, but today I am sure. Blood is almost always present, new blood (not black) and the mucus is only there sometimes.

Is this something I should be EXTREMELY worried about? My vet said that they would need a stool sample within 2 hours of her giving it. I work all day & live alone. Any ideas?

sounds like worms.

Call your vet and see if anything can be precribed for a lactating mother that wont harm the pups.

Take care and good luck-

It is normal for the mom to bleed for up to a few weeks after delivery. When having a bowel movement the straining more than likely causes some of the afterbirth to come out. You should be able to refrigerate a fresh stool sample for up to 8 hours while you would be at work, check with your vet though. My pup had a sample done quite a while ago and according to my vet refrigerating a few hours doesn't hurt a thing.
