I don't see why not. Buddhism is not exactly a religion, kinda sorta. You learn to be kind and loving to all living creatures and to better yourself. Buddha was not and is not a God, he was simply a man with many kind things to say and teach. And it says in the bible to never put any other God before him. And since Buddha is not a God, then its just peachy.

A statue is only a peice of metal or stone that has been shaped or painted to resemble something else - it still is just a peice of stone or metal, no matter what it resembles. If you are a Buddhist, you may understand in this manner.

If you are a Christian, it is the resemblence that has importance; what the suggestion is; not what the material is.

Christians purchase Buddha statues all the time, usually as momentoes of trips to asian countries.

No, if you go into a store that sells buddha statues, you have to prove that you are hindu before they will sell it to you.

In case you didn't get it, that is sarcasm.

There are also many statues of the buddha available on-line.

I assume this question was a joke or making a point or something, but, I have to tell you, I don't get it.

From a Buddhist perspective:

Buddha was not a god, he was a man. When he severed himself from the samsara he ceased to exist. Siddhartha Gautama was a teacher and a role model, but he was never a god...

So owning a Buddha statue is just like owning a statue of a significant historical figure. It is not idolatry, it is respect...

I did. He sits in my garden with dignity. I also have St Francis with a bird in his hand. I have a small outside statue of the Holy Family and a little girl sitting on a bench with a frog. I don't worship Buddha but I respect him. He lives in my garden I don't think he would mind that.

I have one. Plus I use a picture of a Buddha statue as my computer wallpaper. It reminds me of how to live the way Christ taught us to live. It reminds me to keep things in perspective, to relax, to laugh, to love. The Buddha taught for over 60 years, Jesus only got 2-3.

Do you think that there's religion gestapo at gift shops who will ask you for your "Buddhist" paperwork before they allow you to buy one?
