In order to break down the starch, oil, and fiber found in corn your body you would need massive amounts of enzyme, water, higher temperatures than 98 F, and about 30+ hours. Just doesn't happen except at corn processing plants.

It's because corn has an indigestible coating of cellulose. The stomach doesn't have the right enzymes or bacteria to break down cellulose.

The better question is, if corn doesn't register to the body as edible, why is it in almost everything we eat or drink? And people wonder how america is both obese and malnourished at the same time. Cause the sole food that almost everyone eats cant be digested. Im no scientest, bit thats just beyond stupid in my oopinion.

It does not digest as it is cellulose and we don't have an extra stomach to digest it with the proper enzymes. Ruminants have that capability. Is why you chew corn to expel the inside, out of the shell encasing it. Is where the nutrients are located.

Depending on how large the corn cob was when he swallowed it, he'll likely pass it. If you don't see it in the next couple bowel movements, or he starts acting different, go see a vet.

The cellulose outer covering doesn't allow for total absorption in the digestive system.

Corn is made from cellulose (something that plants make) which is something that we can't break down, hence the reason why you still have kernals. It also has no real nutritional value but tastes good with butter and salt...it does have high fiber content.

Try chewing it.

When I had some dental work done, I ate a veggie dish which contained corned. Naturally, I couldn't chew like normal. The corn came out.

I don't know, but I suppose it means one could eat as much corn as humanly possible in order to feel full, but since it never breaks down in your stomach, you would never gain weight. You might actually lost weight.

Hmm... that actually sounds idiotic enough to become the next great diet fad.
