I have six tattoos and have used vasiline for all of them with no colour fade problems, everything else you are doing is fine. Just carry on with what you are doing, don't scratch or pick and in a few days you'll have a nice tattoo. Be aware it does take a couple of months to fully heal, so make sure you moisturise it occasionally, I usually just rub in some vasiline now and again. And keep it out of the sun for that couple of months too (i know its winter at the mo but just in case you are going away or anything!)

Stop using the Vaseline!!!! No it's not okay to use Vaseline on your new tattoo it will fade the color out. Use A&D ointment on your tattoo. It only cost a few dollars.
If it don't look it brought any of the color out already then chances are if you stop using the vaseline now then it wont do any damage to your tattoo. Just don't continute to use it. You will want to wash it with a mild anti-bacterial soap, using your finger tips then pat dry with a towl don't rub! Don't pick at it if it scabs over! Good Luck with your new tattoo.

I have 3 tattoos and I was told that I should use a&d ointment for the first 4 days, then switch to an unscented lotion Aveeno, vaseline intensive care. Vaseline and antibacterial ointments (neosporin) will generally cause fading.

Personally, I wouldn't have used vaseline for my tattoos. I used a product called aquaphor, and while it's simular in consistancy of vaseline, a light coat of it helped keep my tattoos from drying up, but also let them breath a bit to heal better. After the scab fell off I just used plain aveeno lotion and that worked well.

Who ever told you that Vaseline would fade your tat they must not have any. Any jelly based stuff will work. The idea is to not let the newly done tat become dry and scabby. Otherwise the scab could come off and take the ink with it. When I would shower I put extra Vaseline on mine to ensure that the water would run off it. Alot of soaps are drying to the skin. So, to keep your tat looking bright with color keep it moist!

Do NOT use anything that has petroleum jelly (vaseline) in it. The only thing I trust using is A & D, in the brown and white tube. Shower with non-fragrant soap, pat dry and apply a thin layer of the A&D. Once it starts to scab and itch (and it will), continue to use the A&D, it will minimize itching. If the itching drives you insane---smack it, don't scratch it...smacking will ease the itchiness. Once it has flaked, used Udderly Smooth lotion on it (the container has cow patterns on it, can get it at walmart). You should be good.

You dont want to use anything with a petroleum base in it such as vaseline. You want something that is made for new tattoos such as Tattoo Goo. It works fantastic and helps your tattoo heal quickly and it also keeps the colors brighter. You can get it in just about any tattoo parlor or at http://tattoogoo.com/
good luck

Vaseline is going to "suffocate" your tattoo, basically. But that doesn't mean it's going to fade it, so don't worry.
You only need a THIN layer of A&D ointment (or Neosporin) before you get in the shower.
Other than that, keep it moisturized with unscented lotion.
That's all you need to do :)

Vaseline is bad. use a non-scented lotion or if it is healing slowly maybe light A and D ointment. The thing is you don;t want it to stay to "wet." I use nothing for about three days, then i use lotion. I have 10 or more very nice tattoos.
