The best way to get a thorough cleaning when you are going through orthodontics is to have your general dental office coordinate with your orthodontist. They do not have to take the braces off but they can remove the wire which allows better and more thorough cleaning and then go back and have them put the wire back on. It only takes minutes to remove and place the wire back on

No the brackets do not have to be removed. Yes you can have your teeth cleaned with braces on, I do it for my patients all of the time. Your hygienist will clean around them and use a floss threader (looks like a needle and thread) to get the floss under the wires and get in between your teeth. Also it is very important to have regular check ups when you are having orthodontic treatment. Good luck!

SARAH,
SCALING IS USUALLY DONE WITH AN ULTRASONIC SCALER. THIS INSTRUMENT EASILY MANEUVERS AROUND WIRES AND BRACKETS. IT VIBRATES VERY QUICKLY AND SPRAYS WATER AS IT CLEANS. IT'S LIKE A SMALL JACKHAMMER AND GARDEN HOSE IN ONE TOOL. YOUR BRACES STAY ON!
