When I create a document such as a resume I seem to be only to save it in .wps or .rtf format. Is there a way to save it as a .doc?

you need to select .doc in the drop down list of file formats when saving the document.

From MS Word, go to the menu bar and select Tools, then Options. Click on the tab that says Save. Look toward the bottom and make sure that Word Document (*.doc) is set to be your default format for saving files. If it is not, click on the little v to the right to pull down the list and make sure that this is your default format.

Hope this helps.

They're similar, but Word is considered business software and has many, many more features than Works. Works is intended for a home application. Also, the file a Works document would have an extension of .wks and a Word doc would be .doc. The company probably could not open a document you create in Works. -MM

If you're sure you are working in Word (not Works), open the file.
Click File
cl Save AS
At the top, save in, indicate the folder in which to save.
At the bottom: give the document a name
Just below that, for filetype, click the down arrow to select Word document.

Most Word processors can read the .rtf (rich text format) file type. See if you can change this by using the 'Save as type' pull-down menu below your file name box. Sometimes MS Word remembers the last file type used, and doesn't automatically revert to the .doc type.

While in word go to: file, save as, save as type, use drop down arrow, you should see word document or .doc.

You need either Microsoft Word or you can download and use OpenOffice which will allow you to save as a .doc. Word costs money, OO is free.

sounds like you're using Works. As the other person said, you need to be running Word.
