Has your baby been exposed to chicken pox? If not, I would assume the rash is an allergic reaction to something and the doctor should be notified immediately. As far as the fever, give motrin first (giving it every six hours) and then two hours later give the tylenol. Be sure to keep a regular schedule so that neither medicine runs out at any given time. If this does not reduce the fever, try lukewarm baths--not cold--I would not panic about the fever unless neither the medicine nor the baths reduce it under 100. Otherwise, if you trust your doctor, sit and wait the two days because sometimes viral infections just need to run their course. If you do not trust your doctor, take him to another in the morning.

I had a small child with pnuemonia once and thought he would never stop running temp. But he did, after a week. Sometimes you just have to be patient.

The little red bumps could either be from the fever breaking or an allergic reaction. My daughter had that happen once, and Dr. said it was the fever breaking. He'll probably not have much of an appetite for several days. Just make sure he's getting plenty of fluids (I don't give my daughter milk if she's been vomiting, seems to make it worse.) Alternate the Tylenol and Motrin every 2 hours. This will help keep the meds in him so one won't wear off before the other. It's cold season, so just keep him warm, inside as much as possible, and make sure he finishes all of the antibiotics that were given.

Well, I'm assuming that you've shown or described the rash to a doctor, so you're sure it's not an allergic reaction to the Amoxicillin?

Google "roseola." Does that sound right?

Thing is, most things like this are viral. There isn't much a pediatrician can do.

102 isn't a high fever. Really. I can't stress that enough. And young kids can spike fevers up to 106 with no problems other than the occasional febrile seizure (scary, but not medically significant). You will want to let the doctor know if the fever continues for days and days, but right now there really isn't much that anyone can do.

Alternating Tylenol and Motrin, dressing in light clothing, warm baths...all of those things help keep your little one more comfortable. People always say to offer Pedialyte, but my kids won't drink it--for good reason! The stuff tastes terrible. Our pediatrican says we can offer diluted Gatorade instead, but that plain water is actually best. If you son likes Jell-o, that can be a good fever treat: cool (temperature-wise), fun, and helps to keep them hydrated. That's the drill.

Hope he's feeling better soon.

it could be a reaction to the meds.... it could be chicken pox.... call the hospital and talk to a nurse.... she can give you some advise...... if it is nothing to worry about, give him an oatmeal bath to help with the redness and bumps, and a luke warm bath to help bring the fever down...... then keep rotating Tylenol and Motrin and keep him in only a diaper.... then turn on a fan on medium, wrap him in blankets and let him sweat it out till the fever breaks..... that is the only thing that will work with my son.....also give him pedialyte.... I would no matter what call the doc first thing in the morning though and let him know what is going on..... then see if you can get in to see him.... I would have him check your son for an ear infection....... that could very well be a possibility..... Good Luck......and don't worry if he don't eat.... just keep plenty of fluids in him and keep giving luke warm baths.. you don't need to wash him everytime, just let him sit in there and play until the water gts slightly chilly, then do it again in a couple of hours.

PS..... you can also give him 1 1/2 of the childrens tylenol chewable tablets... that is what I had to do for my son, because the liquid makes him puke.

I think you should contact his doctor right away, and tell him about the red bumps, if the doctor does not give you an answer to why hes having those bumps take him to the hospital, because they prescribed a antibiotic (amoxicilin) iand this medicine is some kind of penicillin, maybe this is an allergic reaction to the medicine, what I usually do when the fever doesn't go down I give my baby a bath in very lukewarm water I also put wet towels on her forehead and tummy. It does help.
Good Luck

He may have scarlet fever, which develops from a strep infection. It will take a few days for the fever to subside on the antibiotics regardless, but call the dr about the rash. The bumps could be a sign of allergy to the amoxicillin, too. Scarlet fever can cause heart damage, and an allergic reaction needs to be addressed immediately. You may need a different antibiotic.

Okay the red bumps may be an allergic reaction to something new or he may have chicken pox. The doctor could prescribe him some strong antibiotic. Give your son a luke warm bath and about a half hour after that check his temp again and if it still hasn't gone down with the bath and the medicine then take back up to the children's hospital.

Did he have the bumps before they gave him the amoxicillin? If not call your doctor cause he might have an allergic reaction. To make his fever feel better, try putting a wet cold wash cloth on his forehead to help cool down his temperature, and leave him only with a t-shirt and some socks so he wont get any more feverish. I hope that helps. Don't rub him down with alcohol because it can be absorbed through the skin and be poisonous for him. Dont do it.

Sounds like measles. You should take him back to the doctor. You must keep his temperature below 103 oral. You can put a few inches of warmish water in the tub and set him in it stay close by and sponge the water over his chest and back and this will help cool him down. Try to get him to drink fluids. Dilute fruit juice can help but pedialyte is best to keep his fluid balance correct. If you can send someone to the drug store for the pedialyte and to get advice from the pharmacist on how to use it.

Has your son been around anyone that has had something similar within the last week?

Call the doctor's office and ask them this question. If the fever doesn't respond to amoxicillin then the bacteria is resistant to that antibiotic and he needs a different antibiotic.

Give him liquids - Popsicles, juice, electrolytes like Gatorade or pediacare.

If he is still vomiting, Tylenol suppositories may help and are good to have on hand.

Sounds like you are doing everything right.

Good Luck.
