From my experience, I think a girl might leave a relationship after this long while saying that she wants a time break because she probably does want a real break in some ways but also still cares for the boyfriend. Then she decides that it is worth totally breaking up because she doesn't want to deal with this anymore.
I think this is especially true for young girls in the 18-22 area. They want to experience different things and will end something even if it is good. I dont know your current situation though obviously and the question is very short so difficult to get too much insight.

Well if a girl took a break then she was trying to figure out wether or not the relationship is what she wants and to figure that out someone needs to be alone. Being alone lets you know wether you miss that person or not. If she broke up with him right afterwards obviously she decided the relationship had run its course.

Well a 4 year relationship should have shown the girl if "He was the one, or not". I think TIME breaks are dumb. Why? You would think that you would know and not have to make the other person suffer .

well its hard to say she could be going though some hard times and needs to be alone rite now . i broke up with my ex after almost 3years i just could not be with him anymore so you can talk to her and ask her .
