I am so sorry you are dealing with this. I constantly wonder the same thing. Overzealous Christians are driving more people from their faith than they are bringing in! I may have a suggestion: Take one of these "Bible Thumpers" into your home and gently, after you have let them speak (you may need to be patient), you explain that you are curious about their faith. Explain that you wonder why you feel forced into their faith, and very condemened because you don't follow it, yet their patriarch, Jesus Christ, was very gentle and loving when he shared his word. Jesus wasn't forcefull at all, a door was never slamed on him, because he knew when to stop, and he always listened. So tell your new friend that he or she would do much better to learn kindness, patience, peace, and the art of listening. I hope this works for you!
You can always place a sign somewhere on your property:
Friends welcome, Faith-spreaders by appointment only.
Let me know how it goes:)

I'm not necessarily a "bible thumper", but I do like to spread the word to as many people as possible. I don't go door to door, but do talk to strangers that were willing to talk. So, that being said.
The reason I try and share with everyone is because I know the truth and feel the love from Jesus. I want everyone to feel that love also and be able to have the relationship I do. It is the most awesome feeling knowing I am right with God and will live forever with Him.
Jesus says to spread the Word to everyone, but he also says some people won't want to hear it or won't be ready to hear it. So, at the same time us "bible thumpers" should be leaving you alone if you don't want to hear it. But we have to ask at least to see if you are interested. Because there are a lot of people out there that are seeking it.
Forcing is deffinitely not what I want to do. God could have just forced it on you when he created you, but he didn't, he gave us a choice. So, he does not want us to force it on you either.

Athiests: why must you refuse to even listen to Christians who want to share the gospel with you?
I trust you get my point. Firstly, blanket statements are very often inaccurate, and display an ignorance of the subject.
Secondly, consider yourself on the other side. Suppose you believed (the validity of the believe we will not discuss here) that you had some of the best news you could possibly get. And suppose this news would impart to you rewards in the utmost sense. Would you not also be extremely fervent in wanting to share that news?
I recognize that people can go too far. And it would annoy me if someone tried to "force" religion on my when I made it clear that I wasn't interested. Of course, thats not right--it shouldn't be done. But making ignorant blanket statements, and using expressions such as "Bible Thumper" only makes the other side more aggrivated, and perhaps, beligerent in their presentation.
In response to your additonal details: well, there I can agree with you. That's got to be very annoying. Try putting a sign on your door, or sincerely asking the next group that comes not to come back to your house. However, I hope you understand why they are doing what they are doing, and that mildly invective statements about Bible thumpers and "forcing things down peoples throats" only inflames the situation. Besides--this is a forum for sincere questions, not for rants.

We visit your home in hope of sharing our love of the Lord with you, if you are not interested just say so and we will wish you a good day and leave. Some are more aggressive and wish to stay, just tell them no thank you and close the door. It is not only God that is being forced on you, just have a good look at the TV, nudity, sex violence, you name it. Anyway, I apologize for any bible thumper that has bothered you. We only wish you well.

I'm sorry.., but when did I ever burst through your door like some sort of SWAT exercise???
I seem to have trouble remembering the last (or even the 1st) time I or anyone else tied you down and started thrusting religious dogma at you.
I am still at a loss as to why you people say we force our religion down your throat when you have complete say in the matter. You have a mouth to say "no". You have feet to walk away.., and if ANYBODY walks through your door, against your will - you have the option of calling the police and filing charges.
So at what point are you having religion shoved down your throat? I sincerely do not understand what you are raving about. Remind me when I or anyone else has "forced" our religion down your throat. I challenge you to provide me proof.

Religion and nudity are the two greatest dangers facing the survival of mankind today. I agree with you, it should be shared not forced down our throats like these bible thumpers and humpers try to do. How dare they come into our homes to "spread the word of Jesus", that too in the nude. :-D
How can they see that, it's blind faith.
Jesus!

The inherant problem with q's like this, from both sides, is that no one who answers will be the ones that you are addressing.
If someone really thinks they are a bible thumper that forces things down your throat, they won't answer. Those that do will simply deny being one of those types, or they will tell you to stop judging the entire group on a few (even though that's not really what you said)... so, good luck getting a good answer.

To become a Catholic (which I have), you must submit to a nine month course in Catholicism called RCIA, and go through the rite of acceptance, the rite of election, baptism, and then confirmation. Only after all this would it be done.
I'm pretty sure that if you've gone through all that, it would be pretty difficult to characterize it as having been "shoved down" anyone's throat.
Maybe in future some thought should be put into generalizations, before they're pontificated upon.

WHENEVER THE HOLYSPIRIT TELLS ME TO SHARE THE WORD OF GOD WITH SOMEONE, I DO IT OUT OF AN ACT OF OBEDIENCE TO GOD. I AM HERE TO PLEASE GOD NOT MAN. SOMETIMES PEOPLE ARE COMFORTABLE IN THE SINS THAT THEY DO. SOMETIMES THE WORD OF GOD CONVICTS AND CONVINCES YOU OF RIGHTEOUSNESS. I CALL IT SEED DROPPING. DROPPING THE WORD OF GOD SO THAT THE SEED CAN LAND IN THE SOIL OF YOUR HEART AND TAKE UP RESIDENCE THERE AND GROW AND THE NEXT TIME YOU COMMIT A SINFUL ACT, YOU WILL REMEMBER WHAT THE BIBLE THUMPER SAID TO YOU. IT ISN'T ABOUT THUMPING THE BIBLE, WE HAVE FOUND A BETTER WAY OF LIVING AND WE WANT TO SHARE THIS NEW WAY WITH EVERYONE, ESPECIALLY THE PERSON THAT THE HOLY SPIRIT PLACES IN MY PATH FROM DAY TO DAY. CONSIDER IT A BLESSING AND JUST BE OPEN TO IT. THAT IS THE LOVE OF GOD WHEN SOMEONE QUOTES THE BIBLE. YOU HEAR QUOTES FROM ELEANOR ROOSEVELT, CONFUCIOUS, MLK, AND THEY ARE ALL FAMOUS AND GOOD BUT WHY NOT HEAR A QUOTE FROM GOD WHO WAKES YOU UP EVERY MORNING. HE TAKES CARE OF YOU EVEN IF YOU DON'T BELIEVE IN HIM. GOD IS JUST SO GOOD UNTIL HE PULLS YOU BACK FROM HARM AND DANGER WITH HIS SHEPHERD'S NOOK. JESUS LOVES YOU AND THERE AIN'T NOTHING YOU CAN DO ABOUT IT. FOR GOD SO LOVED THE WORLD THAT HE GAVE HIS ONLY BEGOTTEN SON, THAT WHOSOEVER BELIEVETH IN HIM SHOULD NOT PERISH BUT HAVE EVERLASTING LIFE.

What people don't understand is that if they are led by the spirit of God he will send us to who we should be talking to. It should never come to a piont where someone feels that God's word is being forced on them. People forget that everyone is not into the bible.
