Wordpad doesn't have word count. A free word processing suite, called Open Office Org has a word count function. The program looks like Microsoft Word. To check the number of words, click on File, then Properties, and the last tab, Statistics. It's a big download, but it's free. You can even save your work as a Microsoft Word document. Click on File, the Save As, under Save As File Type there is a list with MS Word. If you want it in Wordpad format, choose .rtf (Rich Text Format) Chow

If you have Word, copy and paste to it and do a count. Otherwise, download OpenOffice. It's free and has most features of Word.
