I want to know if vita contemplativa applied only to monkish type of peoples who studied alot. Where did these terms originate? Sounds latin in origin... where were these terms used? In which time period and for whom?

I don't really know Latin, but from the sound of it, I think it is about the two forms of Religious life. Active and Contemplative. The Active life is like the Franscians. The Contemplative is like the Benedictines. Active means follow a calling to minister to the people. Contemplative is a life dedicated to prayer and meditation. Contemplatives live in Monasteries and are cloistered. (Ignore the fact that some Benedictines in the RC church run schools, they had to do that when they came to the U.S. to survive here. But it is not the true nature of a contemplative..)
