It is their way of interacting with you. My 13 month old does the same thing. He sees our love and attention when we feed him so he is trying to show his love for us by sharing his food with us. They aren't good communicators at this age so they try to mimic what we do for them to show they care. It hurts when I get pelted in the face with a sippy cup though..haha. Just pretend to eat the food if its gross and eat it if its good food. That way your child feels that you are accepting his or her efforts towards you.

It's fun to explore and pretend. After all, they've grown up with people feeding them all the time, and it gives them comfort, so they think they need to do the same. It is a connection between the two of you, and a part of playing. Pretend to eat some imaginary food with them... you may be inspiring a future chef!!

When children feed us they are mimicking our actions because we feed them. Also, it is their way of showing love and affection to us without words. Take as many bites and share in this! It won't last long.

He/She likes to imitate what you are doing. My sons loves to constantly repeat an action whether it's feeding him, doing daily chores, or putting on hats, etc. It's how they learn about how to do things and their environment.

Your child is bonding with you. You feed him/her, then you get fed back. It's great, isn't it!
