my fiance and I are running off to the Dominican Republic to get married. I did a great deal of research for the Caribbean and laws vary from island to island but some will allow you to marry after only being there for 24 hours.
Many resorts will also include the marriage ceremony in the price of the vacation as long as you are there for a minimum time (like 5-7 days typically). otherwise you can find wedding packages as low as $600 if cost is an issue.
It really depends on what you want to do. We chose this because we did not see the value of geting stressed and spending upwards of 10 grand for a wedding. This way we could get a nice trip out of it and have a wedding that was special for both of us... and an experience we would never forget.
Regardless... if you decide to look at the carribean there are tons of sites that will get you started. Ones you might start off looking at are the Bahamas, Dominican Republic, Cayman Islands and Barbados. They seemed to be the easiest islands but it really depends on what appeals to you. We ended up going with the D. R. because there was so much to do there, lots of water activies, great beaches, great nightlife, and lots of sight seeing opportunities plus it was very inexpensive. I looked at applevacations.com and found 10 day all inclusive vacation packages with air out of the Baltimore area for under $3500 for both of us (we are going in the fall of 2007).
So, if that is about your budget then you can certainly swing that for an elopement you will always remember. Best wishes to you and your fiancee!

How about in the Caribbean? You can get married right on a resort- honeymoon and wedding all at once!
Princess Cruise lines also has a chapel on their ships so you can get married on your way there if you want, too.
Those are the only places I know of for sure but someone also mentioned to me that you can get married easily (Vegas style but not cheesy) in the Poconos. And that would be much closer and quite a bit cheaper.

The East Coast is marvelous with all the quaint little towns. You could get lost in your own little world! If you don't have a particular destination, why not get on the internet & look up some places of interest to you both. Good food, a clean place to stay......what else do you need....except someone to marry you.
Congratulations!
Should you head to Cincy, (there ARE better places) give me a shout.

In the above link you can research different states and what is required to marry there. IE. - blood tests, waiting periods, residency, fees.
I understand eloping completely. That's what my husband and I did. We did do Vegas, but we got married in the court house. Not in one of the chapels.

Go somewhere exotic like the Bahamas...or even Tahiti. If you do go overseas, though, make sure you sheck on the local marriage rules before getting there and finding out your dream wedding can't be done.
