Ok their is a disease known for your family to have. Right now your mother is on her death bed, dying from this disease. It it fatal, no cure. You have a twin. Their is a 50/50 chance you will have this disease, if you have it, of course your twin will to. All you have to do is go to the clinic and have them take some blood to see if you have it. Would you go to the clinic and learn your deadly fate, and then have to bear the news to your twin sibling, or deal with the agony of knowing you might inherit this disease and you both will die? We are studying dieases in Biology and my teacher asked me this and I said I didnt know and I was wondering what you guys would do? This story is acutally true, it was a student in my teachers class with Hunington's disease I think it's called. But she lost contact of her, hopefully she lives. ANYWAYS, answer respectfully please or dont answer at all!

That's a tough question to answer! I think I would want to know if I had any hereditary diseases in my family/genes before I decided to start a family myself to decrease the chances of passing on a disease to my child.
I guess it all comes back to the statement to live your life like it was your last day, and as Gandhi said "We are all old, we could die tomorrow." Just my thoughts.

I am one of those persons who is always filled with dread and anxiety over illnesses and yet i have been in comparatively good health. I don't think my mind and emotional being could cope with knowing the results of the test. I had to have surgery last year and was an emotional wreck in the weeks leading up to it. By the way you offered the question, it appears my twin might learn that he/she had inherited the disease and would tell me ,so unless I could convince my twin not to disclose test results, it looks like I would be fated to having knowledge of my likely fate.

I would not want to get the test done. But, I would do it for the simple fact that they might find a cure. You wouldn't be able to do anything at all if you didn't even know you had the disease. I would let my twin decide for herself what she wants to do.

Yes I would take the test, for me its easier to live with the disease then not knowing and wondering about it. And I would tell my twin that I have it and leave it up to her to get tested or not.

That is an excellent question. Yes, I would have the test. If I tested negative, I would tell my twin. If I tested positive, I would not tell my twin. It would be her decision to have the test or not, and if she doesn't want to take the test, then obviously she doesn't want to know, so it wouldn't be right for me to tell her.

No way I'd want to know. I live my life with no regrets, and no turning back. Page turned, and we are done and moving forward.

Live like you'll die today, dream like you'll die tomorrow...

Whatevers in the cards, I'll play them when they're laid infront of me, all in due time.

I think that I would want to know for myslef but also for my sister's sake. If my sister's life was in jeopardy I would want to know and see if there was anything that I could do to stop her from dying. Good luck in Biology, it was my favorite subject in school.

i would take the test. if it was positive i would probably kill myself to put myself out of my missoury and my twin would go with me to the clinic so instead of me having to break it to him/her the doc could.
