as a lebanese christian, i thoroughly understand the horror of radical islam and its rapidly spreading hold in the world today. but from what i understand about islam, the extremests are actually TRUE muslims, while western muslims living in america and other countries are not, because the quran clearly calls for a holy jihad against all those that are not muslims. i just dont see how american muslims who do not share this desire for a holy war can truly call themselves muslims, and i don't see why american muslims don't stand up and say radical islam is wrong. i really want a muslim perspective to this question, because i don't want to misjudge anyone based on this faith. i just want to understand.

look, i just asked a question. i did it in a respectful manner without insulting anything. i publicly dissaproved of a comment that someone wrote that insulted your religion becasue it is not right to do that to someone. and if u are calling me out because i questioned what a true muslim is, than how can u decide whenther or not i am a true christian? i'm sorry to say, but many (not all) muslims have proven that they cannot handle any questioning or criticizing of their religion, as proven with the muslims in turkey over a comment the pope made. you don't see people from other religions making a big deal when someone says something about their faith! people do it all the time on the news about christians, but we dont start riots and kill people.

As a Muslim I completely understand your view. I live in "the West". What must be undestood is that the Quran has been interpreted in many ways. Islam itself is a peaceful religion. Jihad actually means "struggle" - and although I am not a scholar myself, one should not throw out wars every minute someone disagrees with them. Morally, Islam would rather say to speak to someone about their ideas rather than straight out attack. It is really unfortunate that some have taken peaceful words and turned them into more violent things. As a Muslim, I am very peaceful. I speak out about what is wrong; I do not cause anger. People always say they do not know where these "peaceful Muslims" are - that's because they don't hear about us on the news. I turn on the news and I see stories of "violent Muslims", "radical Muslims". Yet...I hear stories about a "man killing his wife" or a "man raping another woman". I do not hear his religion being mentioned... it is really unfortunate that two groups of people are treated so differently. I hope one day we can get along, no matter what religion we are. It is up to God to decide who is who, NOT us through killing...not anyone.

I follow the words of the Prophet (PBUH). In all religions you have religious zeaolots. I do not say how can a catholic stand behind their religion when priests are molesting and abusing more andmore young children or a christian when people murder others in the name of their religion. True followers of Islam know the difference between right and wrong and not to pick and choose what they feel like from the Quran.

Either you are a muslim or not, there is no such thing as a race or particular country being true muslims. According to Islam, all is considered Muslim. It is by choices of parents (for example) that they are not. So if a child dies he will die a muslim.

Your understanding of the Quran is not very good, instead of listening to others why not read it for yourself and you will see it does not say A holy jihad against all those that are not muslims.

We do stand up and speak but no one listens. CAIR started a campaign called Not in the Name of Islam. http://www.cair-net.org/

Remember when you are juding others they are also judging you. In all 3 religions- Islam, Judaism, and Christianity we are taught forgiveness and to pray for those people who are lost. Maybe that is what we need alot of now.

There are just as many groups within the Christian community who hold dangerous positions. Many in America believe the Rapture is coming soon and they will be happy to war with everyone who does not believe as that is what Revalations says will happen.

Please refer to Andrew Denton's movie "God on my side" which has just been released here in Australia.

Please note that you are wrong when saying the extremists are the only true muslims, they are FAR from true Muslims. They believe in Rhetoric that is in no way reflective of the original Qur'an.

As an example Jihad is not a war against infidels. Jihad is a struggle, it can be inner, by pen, by sword or by good actions.

Fundamentalists do not represent our position or the beauty of the Qur'an. The events of the last 20 years are less about religion and more about the struggle between the haves and the have nots.

We all need to understand (Chrisitan and Muslim alike) that the books that are the basis of our beliefs are NOT to be taken literally. We must learn to live with one another, Allah wants this, Jesus wants this. All the religions need to understand we can coexist as we are all preaching the same thing in a different way. Love for all. That is the basis of your Bible and my Qur'an.

First of all, the Qur'an clearly explains that the concept of jihad is more than fighting in the name of Islam. When the Qur'an was revealed, however, Muhammed and his companions were surrounded by enemies, who did not appreciate the various changes Islam affected in life. the Muslims were surrounded by enemies and were forced to fight them. This is why so many "Jihadists" and radical Islamists believe Jihad means exclusively holy war.

Finally, you are wrong about American Muslims not standing up against radical Islamists. The fact is that American Muslims stand up against these atrocities everyday. The media does not cover these sorts of things. You would do well to look into the following groups:

Progressive Muslims Union
World Muslim Congress
Muslim Canadian Congress
Council on American- Islamic Relations
Women Living Under Muslim Laws

Its incumbent upon a Muslim to stop any wrong doing by especially another Muslim. I don't know of any Muslim that has not at least Spoke against it. The Issue here though is not radical Islam against Peaceful Islam. The issue is a crazy man who wanted to invade a Muslim Country without any facts, or evidence. In fact he fabricated evidents which is a well known facts but yet I don't see any Christians even speaking against it. Now that centuries old problem that was well contained; came to a head in his hands and he is completely at a lost what to do about it, his only solution is calling this person a terrorist, that person is a radical.. What's wrong with you people did you all fall silent when he decided to do this against all the world population. Or was the whole world terrorist because the did not support you! The only person is behind it is Bush and his getting away scott free. Why don't you stop him! EDIT: These people who are doing this have nothing to do with Islam. They my live in Muslim Countries, or even pretended to be Muslims THEY ARE NOT MUSLIMS. No Muslim can do everything that Islam Forbids and truly believe he/she is a Muslim. What are they? I don't know, no one knows. But What I do know is that who ever is benefiting behind this is the person/s we need to be looking for. Even Al-Qaida does not benefit from the Killing of innocent Children, women and men that does nothing but drives their recruits away, and the findings, and would be contributors. So who is beefing from this? I think we are all been manipulated in a major way.

TRUE Muslim. How can you classify whos a true muslim and whos not? One can be a true muslim even if one is NOT an arabic. You speak as if you know alot but you know NOTHING .You know why people like you always misinterpret Quran? Because you people can only read but not able to use your brain to think!. Jihad most true mean is to defend thyself. Those muslim aren't true because they don't practice peace. And they probably don't act peaceful because they're being attack and i think thats the same reason you asked this silly question. You're totally disturbed because your country is being attack. The reason why American (us) with Islam as a religion don't stand up is because ,Of America is Our country and we knows how to mind our own business unlike That Bush man.

I'm sorry: I'm a Christian, but I must answer this.

Asking how western Muslims can stand by Islam in the face of radical Islam is like asking Christians how they can remain Christians in the face of reactionary modern-day "crusaders" like George W. Bush, Jerry Falwell, et al.

Jesus is the issue for Christians, and perhaps Muhammed is the issue for Muslims.

Good question!

I have many peopl about the same topic. They say Quran says to kill all non-muslims. And this mis-leads them to say that Quran is barbaric.

Lets analyze this.

Anyone can be misleaded by just quoting a part of the entire sentence...
"They killed him" draws sympathy for the killed person.

But the entire sentence proves us wrong
" They killed him because he had murdered thousands"

Now that justifies the part...
Similarly read the entire part. And if you do, you will find that the verse refers to the battlefield. In a war, if you find the 'infidels' who had tortured you and who want to kill you, kill them.

Who were this 'infidels'.
If you read the entire context, you get to know that, these are those pagan barbaric people who had tortured muslims, looted their property, didnt even leave the old and handicapped tortured them too. And it was during this time, that ALLAH had commanded to be steadfast. These years passed with full persecution and not even a single muslim replied back with a Slap!

So, when they migrated to Madinah, it was revealed to them "fight for your rights" "If these pagans come to kill you, you can kill them too"
As plain as that... Is this inhuman??? Any war general will say this.

But Almighty GOD, ALLAH wants more than this. What is it?

The verse continues, "But if the infidels want peace and want to surrender, ESCORT them to a place of safety"

The maximum a very merciful general will do is to say "Let them GO"

But here Islam says, "ESCORT them to a place of safety"

Now do the justice, and read the entire part.

Peace Be with you,

Good Luck.

Then I assume that by your question you fully support what happened during the Crusades? The Inquisition? The Holocaust? And I'm sure you stand behind what Charles Manson did. How about Jim Jones of Jonestown? Branch Davidians of Waco?

I didn't think so. Not all Muslims are psycho fundamentalists just like not all Christians are psycho fundamentalists. Christianity's slate isn't exactly clean: see all the horrific events I listed above. What ever happened to "thou shalt not judge" and "love thy neighbor"? Love your Muslim neighbors and stop judging them.

seriously the reason we muslims are not saying radical islam is wrong is because idiots like Bush, C. Rice, Rumsfield, and Cheney have pushed their limits and pissed every muslim in this earth off
and adding to that the media, alway trying to say in their polite way that we muslims are terrorists
