i am talking about a drug called Robaxin or (Methocarbomal). It is a muscle relaxer. My carpal tunnel syndrome is acting up. It has been awhile since and just noticed my medication is expired! Is it still effective to take?

It could be less effective, however, because it's a muscle relaxer I wouldn't be too concerned. If you were taking an antibiotic I would suggest not taking it if it were expired. :-)

I would say the answer to your question is no. Seeing how it is a prescription medication it tends to need to be as fresh as possible to get the best effects. If the expiration is just a day or so over it should be good still but if it is months to perhaps years then I would go get a refill as soon as possible.

If it has 'just' expired it's probably okay, but if it's 'way out of date, then likely not. The reason for the expiry date is that after that date the medication isn't as effective. It doesn't just stop working on that day, it's a gradual process, but oxidation, or any of a number of other factors can affect its effectiveness.

It will not hurt you, but may not help you either depending on how long it had been expired. Where are you congested...lungs or nose, ears, or where? You know there are different OTC drugs, and a good antihistamine like Zyrtec and saline nose spray can help congestion in your head. Mucinex is good for congestion in your lungs. You can buy those at K-Mart or any drugstore.

it probably won't cause you any harm, but it probably will not do anything either. Medications lose their effectiveness over time. You can call your local pharmacist to double check. Also, try some OTC pain relievers like advil until you can get a new script. Also, try not to type until your hands feel better.

Meds do have a shelf life. Is there something else that you could take like advil or aleve until you call the doctor to get a new prescription? It would probably be best.

The older the medicine, the less effective it becomes.
