Watch Mythbusters - Vodka myths episode on Discovery channel. They brought in a professional Vodka taster and tried the filters and other mythical formulas for making a better Vodka and none of them fooled the pro. They still tasted cheap even the charcoal filter one. it does however help with stinky feet and bad breath.

It is possible in theory. But then again it's a theory. You are better off purchasing "expensive" vodka or better vodka for the time, effort, materials and the cost of the cheap vodka.
We're really talking about $20 or so for a good bottle of Goose, Vox or Stoli.
Either way, they all produce the same effect just less of a crash in the morning.
;)

Mythbuster's did an episode on this one.
They ran vodka through 20 filters, keeping some off to the side each time.
They brought in an expert on vodka and he was able to accurately place every one of them in order by taste. There was improvement, but the cost of the filters would make it just as cheap to buy the good stuff.

You might as well buy the good stuff than to go all that trouble. Besides, cheap vodka in mixed drinks is fine because you won't be able to tell the difference for most people. Save the expensive stuff for drinking straight or in lesser mixed drinks where the vodka could be detected as harsh.

Cheap and expensive vodka are both filtered through active charcoal prior to bottling. A gas chromatograph will show that chemically there is no difference between cheap and expensive vodka (ignoring the flavored kinds).
If you want to make cheap vodka taste like expensive vodka burn a $20 bill while drinking cheap vodka. That should recreate the expensive vodka experience accurately.

I guess it would all depend on how expensive the charcol filters are. And how much time you've got.
I've hear of flavoring your own vodkas, but never filtering them.

What you do is for your first two drinks drink the good stuff and by the third drink you won't care how good the quality of vodka is so switch to the cheap! :)
