A mate told me about a kind of 'pub crawl' you do in THailand where you float down a river all day and people hand you beers from the edge of the river every few hundred metres or something..? Does anybody know about this and where this is? thanks

Sounds like the Floating Market just outside Bangkok
You can take a Boat trip and buy almost anything from the Other Boats selling everything from Food to Original Fake Antiques.
People will give you the Beer if you give them the Baht,
Just like anywhere in Thailand.

The closet thing I can think of and probably is the best answer you will get is the "floating market". It is the only market that customers will get to ride in small boat along the river. They sell everything from both sides of the banks and in the river as well. It's about 2 hours away from Bangkok. I'm sure you can get beer along the river (market).

Think someone told you a joke. I lived there and never heard of beers in the river. I like beer so would have found that one out. cheers.
