Tragic times seem to be the times when we most recognize our need for God--as well as the times when His tender mercies are most evident to us--because He always meets us right at the point of our need. These also seem to be the times when it is easiest for us to reach out to Him. Maybe our defenses are down, maybe we're in too much pain to worry about surrendering to Him, maybe we have a clearer picture of our own mortality than we ever have before, or maybe our experience of His love is just so overwhelming that we can hardly resist. Whatever the reason, He is "the God of all comfort" and His love, mercy, and grace are sufficient for all our needs!

I believe that God designed each sex with certain abilities and attributes. Men are called into positions of authority for a reason. Not to be discriminating, it's just that women are not as well suited for the position. In cases where I have seen women as pastors or preachers, there has always been conflicts and problems, and not just from those who are sexist. Some have been wonderful women of God, full of the Spirit, knowledgeable, and eloquent speakers. I think Paul's discourse was about having order within the church body and ability, not sexual discrimination.

On the contrary, it was the complete and utter lack of anything from any "God" when things turned bad. No magic man in the sky got me through college, helped me when I was broke and in the gutter, was drinking heavily, or turned suicidal.
I had faith before it all, and each time something happened and I needed him no God was there. Ever.
So it was the continual failure of any Christian deity to manifest his power in ANY way that turned me away from religion completely. Say all you like about how "God was testing me" or "working in mysterious ways"- it's all crap. If God wanted credit for helping, he kept his requests to himself.
The strength to deal with life comes from within, not from without. The more people that realize this, the better off we'll all be.

Sometimes it just takes a life shattering event in order for someone to start looking for answers. If someone is living a completely comfortable and perfect life, there aren't many reasons to go looking for something more.

Many people have to reach "rock bottom" before they realize that their own recources are not sufficient to carry them through. At this point they are reduced to a point of humility where they are ready to reach out to God. Most people feel that they have the inner sufficiency to meet all of their problems without God's help.

Because that's when we turn to a higher force than us, who we believe to be God. When something is too much for us to handle ourselves, we turn to God, who we haven't prayed or worshiped in forever. It's instances like that when we remember how much He loves us. And that's when it comes to our advantage.

I think sometimes you have to hit rock bottom and have no place else to go. Then you feel something inside you missing. You finally realize God has been there you just ignored Him.
