One of the best treatments for ichthyosis is Vaseline (100% pure petroleum jelly) because it contains lecithin and any lotion/cream that contains lecithin can help make skin softer. To help your skin absorb the lotions better, scrub away excess dry skin with a lava/pumice stone in the shower and apply baby lotion immediately following (right as you get out of the shower). Also, creams tend to help moisturize skin better than lotions (as they are thicker), so using a cream in place of normal lotions might help. If you find that your skin is still exceptionally dry, try Epilyt

Barring any skin disorder that needs to be checked out by a dermatologist, try taking a hot bath or shower and using a loofa to remove scaly skin. Use a shower/bath oil (like Keri) while you are still in the shower, being careful not to slip on your way out. Once you're done and dried off, use a cocoa butter or shea butter product while the skin is still soft from the shower or bath. This should help, especially if you do it at night before heading to bed.

The BEST stuff for this is Aquaphor made by the people who make Eucerin...get the ointment not the lotion at first. It's 41% petroleum and has lanolin in it ,so it has vaseline in it and works SO much better. It's a little pricey but a tub will last you a while! Good Luck!
