If you saved it without making a copy of the original, that's it. There is no way to get the original back unless you saved it on a network that does regular backups and you happened to save the original file before the last backup was performed. In that case you could ask your network administrator to recover the file for you from the backup tapes.

If you have rewrote your document and closed it, then there is no way to get the old one back.
But if your file is still open, then you can press Control+Z to undo the operations that you have performed to the file.
So if you rewrote and saved a file but not yet closed it, you can get back the original contents using Ctrl+z but if you have closed the file then you cant get back the original.
Any how my advise is whenever you are modifying any important files, first take a backup and then do the modification.

Maybe.
Try the File menu and see if it is there. Maybe that has not been erased.
There is commercial file recovery software for Word. I guess this happens a lot...

If you wrote over the original document and saved it, then you can'tget the original back. you can see the changes you made in the word document however.
