umm i used to have braces and i have a water pic and it worked awesome and you can change the pressure of the water so you can make it as soft or as hard as you want then you might want to take some mouth wash and rinse your mouth so you get that clean feeling. hope it all works out for you

I would suggest getting a Sonicare toothbrush. It's more gentle and more effective than a normal toothbrush. And floss floss floss!!! You will be thankful you did. I suggest Oral-B Superfloss. I love it, it's great.

A normal toothbrush gets worn out very fast with braces, so the bristles get hard and can damage the gums. This happened to me using a normal toothbrush once (I use sonicare, obviously). My gums were red, swollen, and sensitive, and they bled when I brushed them, even with the sonicare. I would suggest rinsing your mouth with salt water, and not brushing for a day or so. Make sure you rinse your mouth really well and maybe floss carefully, but give your gums some time to heal. Also, ask your orthodontist to check it, and maybe ask for a referral to a dentist for a cleaning.

Hope this helps.

sometimes the brackets are placed too close to the gums which will cause your gums to bleed. or sometimes when they cement the brackets, they didnt' clean out all the cements. your orthodontist can do the cleaning for you but most often they won't. you will have to see a general dentist for that.
