I have 4 cats. 1 is obviously the alpha. Another of my cats never behaves until the alpha female comes in. Then it's like a child whose Mom walks in. She stops whatever she's doing and doesn't get into anything else. It's weird. I've never seen them in a fight, the older cat just has this effect on her. What do you think?

Yes is you have more than one cat they will develop hierarchy. One will always be dominant and the others will always submit to what that one wants. I two cats and live where there is a group of feral cats I have observed that they operate a lot like a pride of lions.

I would say that the younger cat feels very threatened by the alpha female. One indicator of a cat feeling stressed becuase of a threat is becoming as passive and motionless as possible in order to NOT attract attention to itself. Hopefully, since the cat is young, she will eventually develop a coping mechanism. You can help by petting the alpha AND the fearful kitty simultaneously helping them associate good feelings in each other's company.

That is the dominant cat in your home. I have 3 cats and my oldest DEMANDS respect from the other two. They don't mess with her, they move out of the way when she's at the food bowl, and they know not to go near her while she's sleeping. Cats are interesting little things aren't they?

the one is obviously the dominant cat, and though you may have not seen it the other one was put in it's place by this cat.
They don't have to do any real damage to establish the chain of command

I think somthing might have happened between the two. Maybe that cat just respects the other cat. NOt sure that is definatly the wierdest thing I head today.
