its not like its a serious break its just that she can't move her claws thats all cause and she's eating well and she even scrathes it with no sign of pain and she even hops in her cage with one leg as if nothing happened

ok after 7 days i do see progress in her leg she's able to put themin the place where she stands and when she scrathes her self she uses her broken leg is that a good sign? i do see a little bit of movement in her toes or claws but once in a while she does like leave them hanging but not to often i mean last night she slept with them on the stand and she's still eating well and drinking and a lot of energy there is a little poop on her broken leg which i will clean. and it looks like it still the same color as her other leg so what do you guys think? oh there was no vet help i was the one who took care of her and plus i heard rumors that if you splint a birds broken leg theres a chance you'll give her more pain so im her vet i learned certain stuff by watching animal documentaries.

I suggest getting your bird to an avian vet. You can find one in your area at

I have had two birds with broken legs. One needed to be splinted, the other could not be splinted due to the part of the leg that broke. I also had a bird once who we thought had a broken leg, but really she had an infection that was cutting off nervous sensation to the leg. This is why you need a vet.

Six weeks.
Most of the time when a bird looks like it has an injured leg, it is not broken; it is only sprained.
It still may take six weeks to heal, depending on how bad the sprain is.
If the leg looks normal but the bird just isn't using it, but the toes move, it will probably be back to normal when it heals.

On finches, the bones set in three days. I usually leave a splint on for a week so they don't use it. You did splint it...right?
It's important that you make sure she's getting enough calcium. I'm trusting that you know it's a female. She has no red coloring on her feathers..right?!
Females need more calcium.
Make sure she's getting a varied diet. Seed is not enough. She needs a variety of fruits and veggies. Offer her whatever you're eating without the salt.
They will eat scrambled eggs too. Stay away from milk products. You can buy finch treats with fruits and veggies in them.
Good luck!

Rayven is right, it depends on your puppy's health, where the break is and how severe it is. But when my dog (3 yrs at the time) got hit by a car she broke her leg in 3 places and they preformed surgery, and her recovery and or the time it took for her to heal was about 8 weeks. It might actually take less for a puppy, because their bones are smaller.

A good 2 months depending on the impact.
Sprain = 1 month
Broken and not in that much pain = 5 weeks
Fully broken = TAKE HIM TO THE VET (2 mths)

I cannot stress how important it is for you to PLEASE take this bird to the vet. It is in immense pain right now (if the leg is broken) and the leg will NOT heal naturally.

The leg must be cast, and if you don't have the money, do the bird a favor and put it down. Please don't let it suffer.

IT WILL NOT HEAL ON IT'S OWN.

I'm not trying to preach at you, but it is important that you seek professional help.
