Go on line and check out surveilance equipment or bugs. You will find many stores that sell equipment that you can purchase to check your house and phone. Placing a bug is relatively easy, finding it can be difficult. They have devices that only require that they be in a location to have a clear path to your home and then point the device in that direction. It will listen and hear everything going on and no "bug" has to be placed.

I watched part of a show back in 1982 on industrial espionage.
They placed a small plastic wafer in the hanset of a phone, called an extension (calling another number was illegal),talked for a couple of minutes, hung up the phone and listened to the people they called talk.
There are places you can get the equipment you need, but the govt. is trying to shut them down.

If it is the police, they do it at the phone company switching boards, so you will never know it is happening.

For others, you can have your home "sweep" with radio transmitter detectors.

They will connect with radio signal or wire to a recording device, to a telephone or computer transmitting device.

It's pretty easy but the first thing to ask yourself is why would someone bug your place?
