directly quoted from the website below:
"The main reason you shouldn't wake a sleepwalker is because of their reaction to being woken up. Some of them become really frightened and disoriented. If that's the case, you shouldn't touch them or lead them back to bed. According to Dr. Richard Ferber, Director of the Center for Pediatric Sleep
Sleepwalker
Disorders at Children's Hospital in Boston, some upset sleepwalkers will "flail out violently" if they're touched. So save yourself some bruises, lock up sharp objects and don't wake a sleepwalker. You can, however, tell them all about it the next day. Don't worry about exaggerating a few points - they won't remember a thing about their sleepwalking in the morning. "

It can be difficult to wake them up. It is like they are in a nether-world and sometimes it is difficult to know when they are still asleep or not.

If you can get them to wake up, there is generally no more consequences than waking someone who is dreaming. They may be startled, disoriented and even mad, but once they come to full consciousness they are usually fine.

I guess it depends on how deep they go. I sleep walk sometimes and usually if someone begins to talk to me I immediately pop out of it. They usually have a kick doing it too. I say some pretty funny things. So, normally I don't think it's much of a problem..... don't worry they aren't going to go exorcist on you.

My son sleepwalks. We've tried waking him once and he freaked out. If you see a sleepwalker, let them go about their business. Most of the time you can try talking to them and redirecting them back to bed. We always send our son to the bathroom and make him pee. Then we turn him around and tell him that his bed needs him to lay in it, he always goes without fail.

sometimes the person can become violent, or just so confused it is almost impossible to get them to stay in bed.So staying close to that person after being put back to bed is a good idea.
