Ok, this is going to sound a bit conceited...

I'm really confused. I've been dating my bf for 3.5 months. We've hit it off really well. He told me he loves me and that I'm one of two people who's ever been important to him. The other is his ex, who he dated for 3 years. He doesn't have a lot of experience with girls. In college, he was a seminary student, but he dropped out of that because he decided he didn't want to be a priest. Now, he and I are both law students in VA. Recently he told me his ex is seeing someone else and he's jealous. He said he needs to go home over break and see her to see if he still has feelings for her.

I am a law student, 5'4", dark hair and eyes, 115lbs (he tells me I'm the prettiest girl he's dated), I'm motivated, ambitious, and talented (I ride horses, ski, sing, and play the cello).

His ex is an editor in MN, 5'5", 160lbs. He says she's not as smart as him, she's dependent on him, and she uses drugs.

Why would he choose her over me?

I'm really not trying to sound arrogant, btw.

ALSO, he wants to stay in VA this summer and not go home to MN. Why would he pick her? I just don't understand why this girl has such a hold on him (all I can think is it has to do with their long history).

You are right in thinking that it's because of their long history. You said yourself he doesn't have a lot of experience, so he may not have figured out how to move on after a relationship is over. If he lost his virginity to her, then that's an even bigger tie that will keep him from getting over her. She was his first love, and most people don't ever forget their first love, even though they don't keep those feelings.
More than likely you have nothing to worry about. He needs closure, and a reminder of why they broke up. It's very easy to forget the bad after time has gone by, and he may not conscience be thinking of her drug problem or dependency issues. My guess is that once he sees her, he'll remember all of the bad, and he'll come running back to you, thankful that he's no longer with his ex.

Um...he dated her for 3 years? First loves are always special, no matter WHAT they look like. Feelings for some one can be stronger than physical attraction. Emotional attachment is powerful. It doesnt matter if you are pamela anderson, if he is jealous of her being with some one else, than you are losing a battle here.

IF he continues this behavior, move on. Let him chase her and find some one else.
