Basically you have groups of muscles that control your eyes. Each group is controlled by a Cranial Nerve. There are three Cranial Nerves that move the eyes. CN IV-->lateral rectus,
CN VI -->superior oblique and CN III--> medial rectus, inferior oblique, inferior rectus, and superior rectus. So there is coordination between the muscles to move the eyes together. Cross eyes is when the lateral rectus and the medial rectus which move your eyes left and right don't quiet communicate properly. in a nut shell

Again, a corneal abrasion or scratched cornea will not and cannot cause a crossed eye, nor will it cause eye strain or itchiness. A scratched cornea (corneal abrasion) feels like you have something in your eye. It is painful, annoying and will tear a lot. Use ice packs on the affected eye for about 15 minutes every hour or so. If it doesn't resolve within 24 hours, go see an eye specialist. Is your eye really crossed or is it strained? Eye strain is caused by staying on the computer for excessive amounts of time, watching too much TV, excessive reading or other close work. Eye strain is a temporary condition which will usually disappears when you stop using the excess computer or TV viewing etc. Symptoms of eye strain include, among other symptoms, blurry vision and headaches. If your eye is itchy, watch for red or pink in your eyes and any discharge from the eye. These would be signs of an infection that should be checked by an eye specialist. Plain itchy eyes is probably caused by an allergy or dry eye.

"crossed eyes" = strabismus, where overactive (not really "lazy" at all, eh?) eye muscles in one eye cause it to turn inward or outward when focusing. I have 3 kids diagnosed with it; two wear glasses to let the glasses do the focusing (and make their eyes kick back and relax, so no turning).
All three also get some form of patching, to make sure the turned eye stays strong. BTW, if the glasses are correct stregnth, the eye stops crossing too.
Here's the important thing:
STRABISMUS CAN CAUSE BLINDNESS.
The technical term is amblyopia, which is when the brain starts to ignore the turned eye's vision because it's just too difficult to focus. This happens in early childhood, as the brain is still "wiring" connections with the eye.
No treatment for turned eye ->brain ignores -> permanent loss of vision in that eye.
When you see adults with a "lazy eye," this is basically a result of failed or no treatment as children (which, believe me, is hard to convince the kids they need, but doctors have some sneaky tricks to get it done nowadays).
So, if your question is about a child, get to an opthamologist immediately. Treatment MUST take place before about 6 or 7 years old, or your child may be permanently partially blinded.
Also important: if this is your child and you have other children, have ALL their vision tested. They can do this for kids even as young as 1 year old. They could have related problems even if you can't see an obvious "crossed eye" - one of mine did and it broke my heart when, after a year of fretting over her sister, we realized she couldn't see out of one eye either. Now DR monitors all five of my kids regularly, even the baby.
Hope this helps. Best of luck.
PS if this isn t about a kid, you could have a SERIOUS problem. I'd start at the ER if it were me.
