Not showering is almost always a symptom and not a problem in itself. He may be depressed or mentally ill in some other way. You might start by expressing concern for his general well being. Ask him how he feels about himself. Express your concern and care for him. Tell him how much you value him as a friend. This would be done in private of course, when he is in a position to listen and you both have plenty of time.
If you find that there are issues in this area then obviously this is what needs to be addressed. Once the depression or whatever is under control, the hygiene is likely to follow.
Of course, you cannot stop there. You will have to go on and tell him that he does need to shower every day. Explain that he does have an odor about him, his hair does not look clean or whatever it is that you are noticing (many things I bet). Then let him know how great you think he would look, smell, etc with a little care and attention to his personal hygiene. All the while reinforcing your love and concern.
If done right this can actually enhance your friendship rather than detract from it and you will be helping the guy, after all. And don't forget to offer some advice, if he needs it, on products, clothing, hair shops and such. Maybe even a real make over. Could be the start of something big!

Ok. You admit that you have hinted and hinted and nothing helped. Well, the next step is to POINT BLANK tell him he has got to take a shower- or even a tub bath- if he prefers because the body odor is owerpowering! You can tell him you were not trying to embarrass him, hurt his feelings or make him mad; but you thought maybe he was unaware of it and thought he should know. If that doesn't work, nothing will.

Hmm, sounds like a difficult scenario. It sounds like you really care about your friend and want to be as kind as possible. I don't envy you for having to do this and know it may be difficult but I would start by expressing that you are concerned about him. Ask him if anything is going on. Maybe he is going through something difficult or something happened to him and he is covering it up by not maintaining his hygeine. By opening up the conversation with expressing your concern for him, this may allow you to pinpoint the cause of it and in turn, can give you insight on ways to bring up the hygeine issue. Good luck!

Saw something like this on the news so check out the site...there are supposedly websites that will send an anonymous email or regular letter to someone who has bad hygiene, bad breath, etc. This is the story from a news broadcast...

If it were me, I would just be straight up and honest with him and tell him to shower, bathe and mix in some soap with that. Sometimes you just have to be blunt with some people.
This is nasty! If you have to be told or ordered by someone to get some soap on your ***, then you have problems. LOL

Tell one of his friends to take him aside and say he needs a shower, and should shower more often.
Don't do it. That will offend anyone. But one of his friends may help.

Does he suffer depression or something? It could be that. Does he work or hold a job, because if he does other people are hinting likewise.
