Whenever I wear the, um, small-type earrings (I don't know what to call them) for more than 5 hours, I feel no pain but someone tells me one of my ears is bleeding around the hole. (I usually wear hoops now.) What's wrong with my ear?

1. when you had those ears pierced, one of the piercings, on the ear that bleeds, didn't "take." i.e., you most likely got the string taken out of it before the hole had formed scar tissue around it, therefore sealing it so that it would not bleed after removing the string.

2. to resolve that, go to the party that pierced your ears and see if she can pierce that particular ear exactly where it was done in the past. be sure to keep it clean, use some betadine occasionally to steralize it when you pull the string back and forth. be sure that the second piercing is straight, as it should be, so that it will be easy for you to insert an earring later.

3. THIS ALSO SOUNDS A LITTLE LIKE something that i get: i am allergic to any metal other than real, at least 14k, gold or platinum. THE WORST TYPE OF EARRING FOR THIS KIND OF ALLERGY is that sort that is cheap. it may look like gold, but it is not. it is usually make of ZINC. it is the zinc that sets off swelling on my earlobe and later, bleeding. it drives me crazy.

sometimes you can resolve this problem by using a fluid that you buy at a jewelry store that looks something like clear nail polish. do not use clear nail polish. the other nice, really good thing, but awfully hard to find (ask at the cheap earrings counter in a real good department store), are these tiny clear plastic coverings that go over only the part of the earring that will touch your ear, not the hoop or decorated part hanging down.

i hope this helps you: i simply just don't wear zinc earrings at all, and most of the time, i will not even wear those made of silver.

At Claire's or icing, if you look at the bottom of the earring package, some say sensitive solution. I have the same problem as you. Also you can probably wear 14k gold or higher. tip: always wash your earrings in alcohol wash before wearing them.

You may have an allergic reaction to earings. I have a that similar problem, but my ears don't bleed. I don't know if you wear cheap earings or not but if you do, you may not to wear real gold or silver earrings.
