Stephanie, in my experience, a "lot" of women would take up/keep playing golf if their significant other were a little more understanding on the golf course. Of the guys I golf with on a regular basis, most have taken their wife/girlfriend with great results for the first few holes. Then, by some strange galactic rule, the male turns into a loudmouthed, blowhard idiot. The guys need to learn to teach/nurture the gals a little more and belittle a little less. I wouldn't want to play with anyone calling me stupid, or an idiot or anything near that. I carry a 5 handicap and enjoy golfing with both my girlfriend and my sister. I started as a "hacker" 20 years ago and have learned to treat "new" golfers with respect and understanding. I think more women would play more frequently if they were shown, on a regular basis, how to work today to become better/more confident tomorrow!

Hello Stephanie
I think it might be that girls just dont have the compettitive spirit for sports that guys do. (just a thought) plus they may think that golf is a game for old retired guys (wrong)
Anyway, I have been golfing for 20 years now and more and more I see girls playing , which is great. I love to see ladies on the golf course.
Now as far as you being the only girl on your golf team it might be that your the only smart one :) You have found the pleasure and serenity of this great game for all sexes and ages.
However I have noticed one thing, when other gals see an individual girl enjoying herself doing something they all of a sudden want to try it, it just works that way. So hang in there and probably soon you will have a few team mates.
Goold luck
Leon

Depending on where you live; golf is not an option or readily available. Remember golf is rather expensive, the country club experience is the best way of learning and enjoying golf. I was 30 before I picked up golf and I'm now hooked.

When I was in high school, I was on the girls golf team. That was a high school team. In the 4 years, we normally had about 12 to 15 female golfers. We had a varsity team of 5 and a junior varsity team of 5. In our conference, there were about a dozen schools with girls golf teams. Female golfers are out there, just keep looking.

Most girls don't like golf; it's a real shame too! I'm 17 and there's not a single woman playing at our club... under 50! It's not a small club either.
But yes, I mean I think it might be because girls think golf is only played by weird, fat guys - but you would know most of us are actually quite athletic, young, good-looking guys.
And hey, if more girls knew how much money golfers make, there might be more showing up, who knows.
Anyway, that's it.

It's hard as a junior, especially a girl, to find other girls to play golf with. Try asking your PGA professional at your course. If they don't know any right off, they know about tournaments for juniors, and can contact other local courses to find someone for you. Where do you live? Depending on where you live, there should be plenty of courses for you to play at and start networking at.

Don't get your friends into golf if you want to go to college and play. 20% of all womens full ride college scholarships were not used last year in the US. Keep it a secret, my daughter is 16 and already has three likely scholarship opportunities. SHHHHHH!

That's too bad. Golf is an equal opportunity sport - you don't have to be big or strong or fast. At least you are playing and great for you! Keep it up!

Have you tried teaching some of your girl friends to golf? Maybe they've never thought of learning to play the game, or have never had the opportunity to?
