lxl= 3.
o.0
I3I + 3 + 9 = 15.
In other words, 3 + 3 + 9 = 15.
Because the absolute value of a number just means that it's how far away it is from zero on a number line, so it's really just three.
But, you would write it as x=I3I

|x| denotes absolute value. It can't be 5 because 5 plus 3 plus 9 is NOT 15. This is really basic, hon. If you know that 3 plus 9 is 12, what does X need to be to make 15?

I think they're going to have to change the name of this site to Yahoo Algebra Answers soon there have been so many math questions lately! Seriously though, a great site that I use for math questions which is also great because it explains the answers step by step (very detailed if you really want to learn Algebra instead of asking all your homework questions here) is: http://www.webmath.com/index4.html

I gave you the link for Algebra but they also have General Math, K-8 Math, Geometry, Calculus, and Trig. Type in any problem and it gives you the answer and explanation. Plus, I've noticed on this site you tend to get several different answers, so don't know if that is always helpful (probably depends on the poster's level of math skills I guess & can be tough to figure out who is the math wiz and who is the math wannabe.)

Off the top of my head I would say X=3
3+3+9=15
Replace X with you guess and do the problem.

lxl=15-9-3
lxl= 3
x= +/- 3

1.subtract 9 from both sides. this gives you
lxl +3=6
2. now subtract 3
lxl =+/-3
3. Since it's an absolute value x can be negative or positive cause it will always come out positive in an absolute value.
