thats probably the best thing for you to do if you want to do financial stuff. both services have finance offices. they will train you and put you to work on doing financial stuff. then when you get out in 4 years youll be sought after by various companies. several civilian banking agencies do business with the government and with the military. USAA insurance, bank of america, GEICO, as well as other companies do a lot of business with military people. knowing how the system works due to having 4 years of practice will look better than 4 years of theory at college. but thats not saying you can't get a college degree while on active duty. if you take a few night classes at a local community college or at the education office on whatever base/port youre stationed at youll have an associates degree before you know it.

I guess I'm not sure what you are asking...during or after?

I knew Marines who moonlighted as investment counselors while on active duty but this was during peacetime. Nowadays with the amount of deployments it would be pretty difficult if not impossible.

As far as afterwards goes; why on earth not? Half the veterans in my MBA program were on the Finance track.

If you join the Navy or Air Force reserve. You can keep your civilian job.

If you get mobilized from the reserve, your civilian employer can't fire you or give your job to another person, it's against USERRA (Uniformed Services Employment/Reemployment Act).

Sure. It all depends on how creative you are with communications. I held 2 jobs in the Navy; one was to make money on the outside and the other was to have fun. It all comes down to creative thinking. you are only limited by your thoughts.
