Travel more efficiently (walk, bike, use more efficient vehicles, public transportation, recycle, buy things that last rather than wear out, and basically, as the famous bumper sticker says, "Live Simply So That Others May Simply Live."

I always go by the rule "Think Globally, Act Locally".
You can walk, carpool, used mass transit, and bike as much as possible.
Recycle glass, aluminum, and plastic
Don't buy overpackaged products
Buy organic or environmentally friendly products whenever possible (especially stuff made from recycled materials)
Never throw out things (clothes, books, etc.) alway donate to a local salvation army or goodwill.
Replace all the lightbulbs in your house with florescent light bulbs, use less energy and have a longer life than non-florescents.
Get a low flow shower head
Put on a robe or jacket rather than turning on a heater.
These are just a few of the simple things you can do to help.
Good Luck.

Essentially, it all boils down to not wasting anything.

For instance:

1. Do not waste electricity- if you're leaving a room, turn off the light.

2. Do not waste gas- ride a bike or walk. If you have to drive, take one trip and do several things instead of taking multiple trips and doing one thing at each trip.

3. Do not waste materials- use only what you need and recycle the rest.

I could go on and on, but hopefully you get the idea. Things like these make a difference over time and it all comes down to not wasting. I hope you understand what I mean.

a good source for ideas is www.greatturningtimes.com.

but remember the earth doesn't need saving - Gaia will readjust to cope, just without humans and most organisms we see around us today.
