To answer your question directly: It probably means that they are sick. Bring the puppy to the vet.
I'm also not quite sure why you have a 6 week old puppy. The national breed club recommends that Chi's are not sold until twice that age - 10-12 weeks. If your breeder sold you this puppy so young, then your breeder is an unethical breeder and you may have a bumpy road ahead of you because of it. Unethical breeders tend to not get health clearances on the parent dogs, tend to skimp on shots and care, and are usually knwo very little about breeding and the breed. While your dog will still be a wonderful pet, be sure to educate yourself before you get another dog and start putting aside money in case this dog has genetic problems or severe problems from the reckless breeding.
I wish you nothing but luck with your puppy. I'm sure she's a fabulous dog. : )
Edit: Actually Tiffany 1, if you knew anything about breeding and buying a dog, the *reason* that the person has a 6 week old dog is VERY important. As I clearly spelled out, but perhaps you missed, 6 week old dogs from poor breeders tend to have health and behavioural problems. If the breeder was unethical enough to sell a dog at 6 weeks, what else were they unethical about? Does the dog have parvo? Did he not get vaccinated? Was he on crappy food? Were worms left untreated? Explaining this to someone isn't "judge mental"(sic), it's helping to diagnose the problem and explaining why it's so bad to buy from these breeders. If you can't see past your own prejudices, then don't answer the question.

Rescues often have to just give the dogs any food they have had donated. When I look after puppies the first thing I do is get them onto a decent food suitable for their age. Any remaining food I give back to the rescue, then when the puppy is homed I give the puppy food to them too (although then they probably give it whatever adult dogs they have!). Mix in some of the new with the old gradually over a few days. GSDs can have quite sensitive stomachs, so it might take a while to find a food that suits him. Get some dog probiotics to help. NOT human ones! Dogs are a different species and need a different sort of bacteria. I've also had young pups that have been removed fromt their mother, mainly because the mum is bullying them or otherwise not being a very good mum and they are removed for their own safety. Regardless of what people say, although 6 weeks is a bit early it's not devastatingly early and if you do right by the pup he'll be fine!

A 6 week old puppy vomitting could be due to a number of different things:
It could have internal parasites (likes worms, coccidia, or giardia).
It could have ingested something it can't tolerate.
It could have a poorly developed digestive system.
It could be dehydrated.
You need to get this baby to a vet as soon as possible, and take a sample of its poop (in a Ziploc bag) along with you so the vet can test it. Pups don't have fully developed immune systems, and can get all kinds of diseases. The longer you wait to find out what the problem is the worse it's condition can become.

6 weeks is too young to be away from mom and littermates, maybe the puppy is stressed going to a new home.
omitting can be due to nervousness, poor diet or change, or worms.
However, if the belly isn't fat I would expect maybe it passed a large amount of worms. Unless you have had your puppy dewormed every week the pot belly will return.
For optimal prevention of environmental contamination and illness in pups and kittens, initiate anthelmintic treatment of pups and kittens soon after birth. Where both ascarids and hookworms are commonly transmitted, anthelmintic drugs should be given to pups at ages 2, 4, 6, and 8 weeks of age. If only ascarids are present, preventive anthelmintic treatments may begin at 3 weeks of age. In kittens, because prenatal infection does not occur, egg excretion begins later than in pups, and in most areas, rates of acquisition of ascarids and hookworms by cats are comparatively lower; therefore, preventive treatment for kittens can be started effectively at 6 weeks of age and be repeated at 8 and 10 weeks. Treat nursing dams concurrently because they often develop patent infections about the same time as their offspring.

First off, a 6wk old puppy shouldn't be fully weaned yet. They are usually weaned by 8wks old.
The weight loss is something that should throw up a warning sign and convince you well enough, to take this puppy to a vet clinic.

Ok there goes everyone and there judge mental attitudes, why you have the pup so young is irrelevant at this point. Are you feeding the pup the same thing the breeder was? how much are you feeding at mealtime? how many times a day are you feeding? Try feeding small more frequent meals, see if that helps. Ignore every one else they can be very judge mental, it's not your fault, it's the breeder. Maybe the pup would do better on another diet, that's another thing I would try, if the diet is different then the breeder was feeding try switching back, dietary indiscretion is a big cause of vomitting in dogs.

Take it to the vet immediately! The vomitting will prevent weight gain and normal growth and can put your puppy at risk for dehydration. It may have an allergy to the type of food you.'re feeding. Puppies are very sensitive to food and sometimes it may take several tries before finding a good fit.
