how many years of college does it take to become a councelor? Do they make good money?

you must mean counselor, but you don't say what kind.

It requires a minimum of a masters degree so that would be about 6 yrs post high school (if you can go to school full time otherwise it takes longer). It isn't a job you get into for the money. I'd say a starting salary of 25,000. It really depends on your location, what type of counseling you do and if you are private pay or community mental health. You can make more money in the long term once you get licensed or move up into supervising.

With a Phd, and as a psychologist, you can start at $70-80,000 (Cdn $). That requires about 8-10 years of schooling. These days, all kinds of people are calling themselves counselors. You need to be more specific in terms of what job position and educational attainment you are inquiring about.
