I've had this syndrome for a few years now. I still get upset stomach aches and so on. I tried to self-heal myself by drinking herbal teas such as: mint/green, camomille. Anyone else have their solutions or ideas?

In the beginning stages, I threw up stomach acid to take the pain away. In time it lead up to my eating disorder. Honestly, I still do it to ease my pain. I get build-ups of stomach acid, and it's so painful.

They're actually starting to say that anyone diagnosed with IBS, or anyone with symptoms of IBS should be checked for celiac disease. Here's a link to the information by the National Institutes of health about celiac.

If that sounds like something that may be going on there are a couple of really good message boards that you can visit to find out more information.

I hope you feel better soon.

My husband has had it for some time. The medications that have made the most difference are Bentyl (antispasmotic) and Reglan (moves food from the stomach and through the GI tract a little better).

Eating several times a day - small meals - rather than one or two big meals is much better for this condition.

The other IMPORTANT issue is to learn to relax in all conditions. Stress and reactions can cause all muscles to tighten. You need to have as many muscles relaxed as possible to relax the stomach muscles.

I have been trying to find scientific answers for several months. There is no good evidence of something that will work. Everyone has to find the "formula" that works for them.

A close friend of mine has IBS. Was extremely rough for a while for him. He now has learned that he doesn't have to run home to use the bathroom. He has learned that's it ok cuz when ya gotta go ya gotta go. :) That attitude has actually helped him and he doesn' t have as many bouts anymore due to him not worrying about it. Good luck to you.
