This may be like hearing a broken record, but Conair is not a good brand if you're looking for super-straight hair. I'm assuming it does not have a heat setting, which is pretty important. Since it doesn't give you an option, it only heats to the one temp, and it probably doesn't get very hot. It's better to have one that has a temp. control. But, since all you seem to have to work with is this Conair, these are the things you can do to maximize the results and keep the integrity of your hair.
DO NOT use the flat-iron on wet hair. Make sure it's completely dry. (You'll fry your hair).
DO NOT hold the flat-iron on one specific area of your hair for an extended period of time. Keep it moving constantly.
DO separate the hair into small sections while straightening - and if a specific area doesn't get straight the first time through you can go over it again, but make sure to keep the iron moving, and let the hair cool down a bit before going back over it (3-5 sec.)
DO use a thermal protectant spray on each section before straightening.
I hope this helps!

Conair is not the best brand. I know with the cheaper ones you have to heat them longer, but it shouldn't take more than about 7 or 8 minutes at the most.
You could also try a straighening gel or spray, which would help it straighten faster and protect your hair.
Spending a little bit more on a straightener would definately be worth it. I would recommend a Chi straightener. They run from $90-$200, but last a long time, straighten your hair faster, and don't damage your hair as much.
No straightener is safe to heat overnight. It could cause a fire and wear out the straightener faster.

Conair isn't a very great brand if you want to get your hair done fast and well. I guess it depends on your hair type, but mine is thick and coarse and Conair anything never worked. Spend the extra $$$ and get a professional one, your hair will be straight in half the time - I also found a 1-inch Revlon straightener at a local department store for $40- you could go that route, too. It has worked very well.
Keep in mind, you have to go a little slow, it's NEVER as fast as in the commercials. You shouldn't have to heat the iron for more than 10 minutes to get it ready, and keeping it on overnight is never a good idea.
Good luck :) Oh! If you use a good heat styling gel, your hair may take the straightening easier, and it'll help protect it some.

Conair is a good brand I have the same one I think your talking about if it's the conair 4 in 1 shiny styles it takes about 20 to 25 min to heat up but not all night that's to long I don't like mine anymore it's not a 100% ceramic which is better for your hair and the conair brand has ceramic ones that heat up faster and that might straighten your hair better

Conair is generally not a good brand for straighteners. It shouldn't take more than a minute to heat up and it's not safe to heat overnight! If it takes that long to heat, then its not good quality. Chi is a very good brand as others have said. The person above me said to not heat straightners above 90 degrees fahrenheit. That's not true!!!! Professional straighteners heat up to 400 degress! Get ceramic plates also.

They do damage your hair. But ceramic straighteners actually seal the cuticles of your hair making it shiny and smooth. They don't snag on your hair either. Also, using a heat protection spray helps protect your hair from the heat damage. If you tied your hair after straightening your hair then that might be the reason you have the bump. If your hair is heated then it's easier to style so the hair tie [or whatever you use] kind of acts like a styling tool and leaves the bump.

i dont think conair is the best one, but ill go and get a good one like for example at the mall, there's people who sell hair straightners, and they can try it on you, but its around 100..
hair straughtners should be heated up for ten minutes, 20min the max, you dont want to overheat, itll dry up your hair...make sure you heat it up at 80-90 degrees, no more than 95, itll damage your hair, and i would recommend you hold the strightner so that its tilting down, and go slowly,

The Chi is the best straightner, I have like super curly hair, very tight and it works wonders. Also if your Chi breaks you can take back to where you got it and they will replace it. Also whats special about The Chi its ceramic so it doesn't fry your hair and dry it out.

A good idea to get straighter hair..I used this on my mom. Buy a perm kit and use the solution on your hair and continuously comb your hair straight for the same amount of time suggested to leave it in. I swear this works and it is cheap and last longer than straightening it every day.

No- I had that one. It works pretty well for crimping your hair, but definately not for straightening it, (it seems like it just made it smooth, but not straight). There are much better ones out there but most of them are more expensive. If you get the right one, though, it's truly worth it.
